Do I Have To Register A Homemade Tralier In California?

  • #ii

last time i registered a "home built trailer" all i had to do was have it to dmv for inspection. they look at information technology, some closer than others. put the VIN sticker on and give you plates. if you get that route you volition have to fill out a statement of facts. note: your story must exist that you or someone in your firsthand family built it, you is best. and you congenital it from scrap parts acquired from yard sales over the years. if it looks old than tell them its never been registered because information technology has ever been used on private property and now yous want to put information technology on the street. if you tell them the truth or anything close to the truth you'll accept problems. i used to make alot of trailers for people and thats what i was told.
too most don't know it just a pink slip is non required for a trailer in CA. i would get 1 (actress 15$ i remember) makes resale easier.

no lieing involved. the AAA does Not deal with this.

call the CHP and schedule an appt with their "trailer inspector." You lot'll get an ID plate riveted on. Then go to the DMV for your 'pinkish slip' and registration.

or

its all a fucking conspiracy, I tell ya!

no need for chp. if you take information technology to chp you better crawl around every nook and cranny and look for vins, serial # manufacturing tags/ marks. they will look. even so i've never had a 50 yr old, 300# adult female from the dmv clamber around under a trailer and wait.

have you brought a legit trailer in to cali from a 'no registration required' state? Perhaps it was simply my mental attitude that allowed me to not have to prevarication, to non have to clamber under the trailer, and to goggle a 20-something CHP inspector while she took care of everything. so back to DMV for a quickie visual "inspection", no hurting in the donkey - only a typical 21st century run-around-hassle, and I was adept to become. Sometimes "attitude" matters when dealing with those dastardly evil govt people.

CHP...Bought a 37 Chevy out of Knox Indiana ....no numbers....took it to the Oceanside CHP where they assigned a vin number.....back to DMV for registration and plates....

no i have not, however i take built close to 100 trailers for people and only had one trouble. the guy went to a spanish speaking dmv services place and because he thought he was dealing with "his people" he permit them in on the fact that he didn't build it. man did he open a tin can of worms. i had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, provide receipts for parts etc.
if yous make an appt. at dmv, bring trailer with no identifying marks, or show it was always vin'd. and make full out the grade (statement of facts i think) that yous built it, you will walk out with plates, and they will put a fiol type sticker on the tounge with your vin

Very piece of cake to practice if the trailer has a VIN. If you exercise not want to get to the CHP, phone call a VIN verifier, it will cost you lot $50-$75 and they volition give you the DMV course and come up to your house or wherever. Make full out a STATMENT OF FACTS sheet from the DMV explaining why y'all do non have the newspaper work, a vehicle registration sheet, and an awarding for championship.

There'south no rivet on vin number from the dmv. They just requite y'all a metallic sticker that they affix to your trailer. I had one that was not domicile built only did not have a vin. Information technology took 15 minutes, just there's no way around going to the dmv. I'm pretty sure you don't demand to go to chp for inspection on a trailer. That's only for vehicles.

At that place's no rivet on vin number from the dmv. They just give yous a metal sticker that they braze to your trailer. I had one that was not home built but did not have a vin. It took 15 minutes, only there's no way around going to the dmv. I'g pretty sure you don't need to go to chp for inspection on a trailer. That's only for vehicles.

My rivet-on VIN number plate came from the CHP.

When CHP or DMV approves your trailer what are they looking for? Practise they go into depth on gunkhole weight and trailer brakes and clearance lights? I'thousand going thru the california regs and man in that location's a ton of stuff they require that I rarely encounter on anyones trailer :(

chp will be much more than diligent in their inspection than dmv will be.

well you can do a lien sale, in my cervix of the woods about 50 bucks and thirty days, then you accept to register it in your name. or y'all tin can do what many do.....remove all identifying marks, take it to DMV and tell them you homemade it. has to be you, not your dad or uncle. im sure the later on involves breaking the law though.

do the lien sale. go somebody good to do information technology for you. i would go to a local tow yard, or a repair store and ask around who they use.
